Tsavo. East & West
The Experience
Three parks. Three landscapes. The full range of Kenya’s wildlife country. This is Kenya’s premium safari circuit — the Mara for predators and the Great Migration, Amboseli for Kilimanjaro and the elephant herds, and Tsavo — Kenya’s largest national park — for raw scale, the distinctive red-dusted elephant herds of the east, and a landscape that feels genuinely remote even in a country that has been receiving safari visitors for a century. Eight days to do it justice, without rushing any of the three.
The Itinerary
Seven days tracing the rhythm of the wild.
Nairobi → Masai Mara
Travel from Nairobi to the Masai Mara by domestic flight or road transfer. Arrive in time for an afternoon game drive through the Mara Triangle, where the open plains offer your first chance to spot lions, elephants and grazing herds. Finish the day with a sundowner before returning to camp for dinner and your first night in the wild.
Full Day in the Mara
Set out early for a full day exploring the Masai Mara’s richest wildlife areas. Search for lions on the hunt, cheetahs moving across the open plains and leopards resting in the riverine forest. Along the way, watch for elephants, giraffes and large herds of plains game moving through the landscape. In the afternoon, continue toward the Mara River, where wildlife gathers and dramatic river crossings may take place during the migration season.
Mara North Conservancy
Spend the day in the private Mara North Conservancy, where fewer vehicles create a quieter and more intimate safari experience. Explore the open plains and river valleys in search of predators and plains game. An optional guided walking safari offers a different perspective, followed by a Maasai cultural visit and a relaxed evening back at camp.
Mara → Amboseli
Begin with a final morning game drive in the Masai Mara before leaving after lunch for Amboseli National Park. Travel southeast across Kenya as the landscape gradually changes and Mount Kilimanjaro appears on the horizon. Arrive in Amboseli in the late afternoon and enjoy an introductory game drive across the open lakebed before settling into camp.
Full Day in Amboseli
Leave camp before dawn for the best chance of seeing Kilimanjaro clearly in the early morning light. Spend the day exploring Amboseli’s open plains, wetlands and swamp margins, famous for large elephant herds. Look for impressive bull elephants with massive tusks, together with buffalo, zebra, giraffe and other wildlife moving beneath Africa’s highest mountain.
Amboseli → Tsavo
Enjoy a final morning game drive in Amboseli before travelling east toward Tsavo, Kenya’s largest protected wilderness. The scenery becomes increasingly rugged and remote as you enter the park. Look for Tsavo’s famous elephants, often coloured red by the rich volcanic soil, before ending the afternoon at a waterhole where wildlife gathers to drink.
Full Day in Tsavo
Spend a full day discovering the dramatic landscapes and wildlife of Tsavo. In Tsavo East, explore vast open plains, the Galana River and areas known for enormous elephant herds. Alternatively, Tsavo West offers a more volcanic landscape, including Mzima Springs and rugged hills. Both parks provide a quieter, more remote safari experience.
Tsavo → Nairobi or Mombasa
Begin with a final morning game drive through Tsavo before continuing to your next destination. Transfer approximately four hours toward Nairobi or around two hours toward the Mombasa coast. Travellers continuing their holiday can connect directly to Diani Beach, making an easy transition from Kenya’s wild interior to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.
