Jungle to Savannah to Mombasa Beach

The Experience

Jungle. Savannah. Ocean. Three landscapes — and a single, seamless journey through all of them. Rwanda gorillas to Kenya savannah to Indian Ocean beach: this is the sequence Edgar designs the whole Twende Safaris offering around. Every transfer is arranged. Every lodge is selected. Every day is accounted for. The result is three of Africa’s greatest experiences delivered as one coherent story — without the complexity of managing multiple operators, multiple bookings, or multiple points of potential failure. Twelve days. Two countries. One operator.

The Itinerary

Twelve days tracing the rhythm of the wild.

Kigali · Arrival

Arrive in Kigali and transfer to your hotel for check-in and time to settle in. Depending on your arrival time, take a gentle walk through the city or simply relax after your journey. In the evening, meet your guide for a welcome dinner and briefing ahead of the adventure.

Kigali → Volcanoes NP

Leave Kigali and travel north toward the dramatic landscapes of Volcanoes National Park. Check in near the park buffer zone and enjoy a relaxed afternoon surrounded by the Virunga scenery. Later, attend your ranger briefing and prepare for an early start the following morning.

Gorilla Trekking

Set out before sunrise for one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife encounters. Trek through the rainforest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family, guided by experienced trackers and park rangers. Once found, spend one unforgettable hour observing the gorillas at close range before returning to your lodge around midday.

Golden Monkeys → Nyungwe

Return to the forest for a morning trek in search of golden monkeys, known for their energy and playful movement through the bamboo. After the trek, travel back to Kigali with time to freshen up before an evening flight to Nairobi.

Kigali → Nairobi → Masai Mara

Fly from Nairobi into the Masai Mara and begin your safari almost immediately. Your transfer from the airstrip becomes your first game drive, with the chance to see lions, elephants, giraffes and other wildlife along the way. End the day with a sundowner overlooking the open plains.

Full Day in the Mara

Begin before dawn, when predators are at their most active. Search for lions, cheetahs and leopards across the plains before returning for a break. In the afternoon, continue toward the rivers and open grasslands, where the light and landscape change with every hour.

Mara North Conservancy

Explore the quieter landscapes of Mara North Conservancy, where wildlife viewing often feels more private and unhurried. A guided walking safari can be arranged, offering a closer look at the smaller details of the ecosystem. Later, visit a Maasai community before returning to camp for an evening around the fire.

Mara · Final Full Day

Enjoy one final dawn game drive before leaving the savannah behind. Fly from the Mara to Mombasa and continue south toward Diani Beach. By afternoon, the landscape has completely changed: white sand, palms and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Check in and enjoy your first swim.

Diani · First Full Beach Day

Today is completely yours. Swim, snorkel, walk the beach or simply relax beneath the palms with no fixed programme. After several days of safari, the slower rhythm of the coast offers the perfect contrast.

Diani · Kisite Marine Park

Spend the day exploring the Indian Ocean by boat. Travel to Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park, known for coral reefs, tropical fish, dolphins and sea turtles. Enjoy time in the water before a relaxed beach lunch and a scenic return to Diani in the late afternoon.

Diani · Final Beach Day

Enjoy your final full day at the coast at an easy pace. Spend the morning swimming or relaxing, then take to the water later in the day for a traditional dhow sail. Finish the journey with a farewell dinner by the beach.

Diani → Mombasa → Nairobi · Departure

After breakfast, transfer to Mombasa Airport for your domestic flight to Nairobi. Continue to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward international connection, bringing the journey from rainforest to savannah and finally the Indian Ocean to a close.
