Rwanda Primate Trail

The Experience

Mountain gorillas. Golden monkeys. Chimpanzees. Rwanda’s three great primates in one continuous journey through two of the country’s finest national parks. This is Rwanda’s most complete primate itinerary — and one that belongs to Rwanda alone. You begin in Volcanoes National Park for gorilla and golden monkeys, then travel south through Rwanda’s green interior to Nyungwe Forest: one of Africa’s oldest and largest montane rainforests, home to thirteen primate species, 310 bird species, and habituated chimpanzee groups. The route ends with the Igishigishigi canopy walkway — a 90-metre suspension bridge through the upper forest, offering a perspective on the forest that no ground-level path can match. Three species. Two parks. One country.
