Two coastlines. Two moods. The full sweep of the Swahili coast. Diani and the north coast are different places with different personalities — and experiencing both in the same journey is what makes this itinerary more than the sum of its parts. Diani is the classic Kenya beach: wide, white, warm, with the coral reef just offshore. The north coast — Mombasa Old Town, Watamu’s sea turtles, Kilifi Creek — is quieter, more culturally textured, with a slower pace that feels like a conscious gear change. Six days. Cross the Likoni Ferry. See Fort Jesus. Snorkel at Kisite. Sail on Kilifi Creek. Eat fresh crab on the waterfront. This is the Swahili coast as it should be experienced.

The Itinerary

Five days tracing the rhythm of the wild.

Nairobi → Mombasa · Diani

Domestic flight followed by the Likoni ferry south to Diani. Check in at your hotel, settle in and enjoy your first swim in the Indian Ocean. End the day with a relaxed seafood dinner near the beach.

Diani · Full Beach Day

Swimming and snorkelling on the reef, with time to relax along the beach and enjoy the warm Indian Ocean. Later, set out on a dhow sailing trip at sunset. Optional excursion to Kisite Marine Park for more snorkelling and marine life. Enjoy the remaining afternoon on the beach, taking in the coastline and relaxed tropical atmosphere.

Diani · Second Beach Day

Second full day. If not already done, take the Kisite excursion for dolphin sightings, turtles, colourful coral reefs and swimming in clear waters. Enjoy a relaxed beach lunch on a sandbank before returning to Diani later in the afternoon. Spend the remaining hours relaxing by the ocean, enjoying the warm coastal atmosphere and views before evening.

Diani → Mombasa Old Town → North Coast

Take the Likoni ferry north and spend half a day exploring Mombasa Old Town, with its narrow streets, historic buildings and Swahili character. Continue north to Watamu or Kilifi, check in and enjoy dinner on arrival. Take time to settle into the coastal atmosphere, enjoy the changing scenery, and relax after a varied day of travel.

North Coast · Watamu or Kilifi

Full day on the quieter coast, with time to explore beyond the beach. Visit a sea turtle conservation area, enjoy a guided walk through Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, or take a relaxed dhow sailing trip on Kilifi Creek. Spend the afternoon enjoying the surroundings, watching life along the shoreline, and taking in the natural beauty of Kenya’s coast.

North Coast → Mombasa → Nairobi

Final morning on the coast, with time for a relaxed breakfast and one last look at the Indian Ocean. Transfer south to the airport and take a domestic flight to Nairobi, marking the end of your coastal journey. Enjoy the final coastal views along the way and reflect on the highlights of your time in Kenya.
